Rule Refresh after a long winter break
Did you do a reset or rules refresh after winter break? It’s really something I never thought about doing because I teach high school. however after over a year of remote learning students have definitely changed and a reminder of the norms that are expected is definitely in order.
I was inspired to do this by an Instagram reel by an elementary teacher (@lettersfrommikelle) who said that she would go over this every day I’m only going to do it for a couple days and certainly not spending as much time as she explained in her real.
I listed the important procedures/ parts of class on this master poster using sharpie flip chart and prismacolor makers on this awesome neon green poster. I used the same poster for both my French and Italian classes since this was a discussion in English.
As we went through class I would points to the poster and the part of class that was and the bullet that we are on and asked students to state what it what do we do at this part of class.
📔 At the beginning of class we retrieve art folder or notebook and write the date out in the target language.
✏️ If you need to sharpen your pencil you get up quietly there is no need to ask permission.
🤧 We wear our masks over our nose and mouth. If we need to eat or drink some thing we go quickly into the hallway and come back.
🚾 If we need to go to the restroom we raise our hand and ask puis-je aller aux toilettes? or posso andare alla toilette?
📚 During reading workshop we follow along and answer the three questions chorally. We may ask for clarification of other new words.
👂🏻 During guided oral input we listen with the intent to understand ask clarifying questions if needed and if we like to take notes we can do that, too.
✍🏻 During shared writing we create our text together and write it down in our notebook or folder.
📖 during shared reading we follow along as our teacher reads our shared writing to us. Then we do Yoda translation, which means we read the words in English in the order that they are written. If we notice anything about how the language setting works then we share that, too.
😷 we wear our masks over our newss and our mouths.
🚪 We do not crowd together near the door. We wait for the bell to exit the classroom.
