I is for, day 9 of the #AtoZchallenge
Is for Invisibles!
The INVISIBLES are a technique created by Mike Peto. If you are familiar with an OWI, it's almost the opposite. The students come up with everything ahead of the lesson; the teacher makes it comprehensible and entices the students to provide additional details. This does involve set up ahead of time.
So in class, I have students draw a creature(if they are not 'artistic', suggest they search for cartoon _______. The drawing should fill up the paper you give them. On the back students will write (in English for NoviceLow, in a mix of English and TL for higher ups)
The creature's Name
Likes
Dislikes
Desire(Want)
Fear
Job
Secret
etc.
I collect the work and I have story ideas for at least 2 months! After the in class story asking we do a Write&Discuss or a Dictation. Sometimes the character is interesting so as a class we talk about it more the next day. Some of my students created friendships or love interest between their characters.
In the video below, are 2 Invisibles characters created by my students, Rico and Pickly Parker
Martin Lapworth, has a new site for teachers, TeachVid. You upload your video and provide a transcript and it magically generates all kinds of worksheets for you based on the student generated text. Martin offered to create one based on this Invisible for teachers to see how his site works.
A presto,
