Costume ideas for the Italian and other World Language teachers

Halloween is around the corner. Here are some ideas for Italian and other World Language teachers to wear to school.

First, some costumes of the past:

We were all bilingual dictionaries since our students always ask us rather than looking up the word. We enlarged and printed the cover of the language appropriate dictionary and wore them like a sandwich board.

Borrow your school mascot costume and add some cultural flair, (his is Westley, the lion sporting a beret).

Form an International team by sporting a soccer jersey.

Wear a Traditional dance costume from the language you teach.

The 17th black cat is super unlucky in Italy.

Here's some other ideas I've come across:

  • Target has an incredible selection of costumes especially of  foods: pizza, taco, ham & swiss(croque monsieur!) and even fries!

  • If you have a blue gown and a magic wand, be la Fata Azzurra
  • If you have a blue suit and a crown you can be il Principe Azzurro
  • Aww Sam has a tutorial for a Ramen costume, which could be adapted to be a pasta dish
  • Be a false cognate of your language( ex: Sopa/Soap for Spanish)
  • On Amazon, there is a Mona Lisa costume which could work for French or Italian
  • Don a mask with a fancy outfit to be at MardiGras/Carnevale/Caranaval

And what will your costume be this year? Comment below!

 A presto,
