Teacher Feature: Mme Phillips

Introducing my first Teacher Feature. In the Teacher Feature I would like to spotlight the great work my colleagues do.

Today I will be telling you a little about a project created by one of my French teacher colleagues, Mme Phillips.

 fle avec gims

Mme Phillips is a busy woman! She has been teaching in our district since 2003. She runs an exchange every 2 years with a school in France, runs the French Honor Society and has several winners of le Grand Concours every year. This year, she presented at the AATF convention for the 1st time. Bravo!

Inspired by the and utilizing the music of MaitreGims, Mme Phillips has created French pedagogical materials for levels 3 and up.

Why music to teach French? Why Gims?

Most importantly GIMS' French is very COMPREHENSIBLE to students.

He uses rich vocabulary and idioms without being vulgar. He doesn't use slang very much, so this increases the timelessness of his songs.  His songs touch on many themes so they can be easily applied to your Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate curriculum.

For each song, Mme Phillips includes an extensive amount of pre-and post-listening activities.

Pre-listening questions include reflection questions and a vocabulary preview.

After listening to the song there are

  • comprehension ,analysis and opinion questions,
  • structure identification
  • grammar practice
  • spoken French practice

There are also post-viewing activities which include video comprehension questions and analysis and opinon. Some songs even have voice memos recorded by MaitreGims himself that students can enjoy and analyze!

Her students love these kind of activities and we hope you will love them too!

All this work has been approved by GIMS, you can hear it straight from him on the home page of her site.

You can find resources for thes songs at her website: https://www.fleavecgims.com/ You will need to fill out a form in order to receive access to these materials and future ones as well.

I encourage you to also follow Mme Phillips on Instagram!

A presto,
